Another day, another Ninja Turtles Mega Construx set.
This one is Samurai Leonardo and he comes with four little mousers. Not much building here just the usual base, then put the mousers together, pose them and put the cool pictures up behind them on the sewer piping.
Of all the sets, this one is an odd mix. I mean WHY Samurai Leonardo vs Mousers? Kind of a random figure to remake in Mega Bloks out of all the hundreds of turtle variant toys.
Up close, he’s a GREAT looking figure. Lovely details with red/black/blue/green/gold colors and his clothing / armor looks awesome on both front and rear. His swords also have gold detailing on the hilt making them really pop when the light hits them.
Little Samurai Leo is a great figure, here’s a quick shot of him with his big brother from the original Playmates toy line that I picked up last week.
Due to his diecast shell, he is nearly impossible to stand up without pegging him into some megabloks or his base.
On the left Playmates vintage Samurai Leo, little mega bloks/construx Leo in the middle and the recent NICK toon version of Samurai Leo on the right. I like them all. They look cool and make me think of the third live action film when the Turtles went back in time – about 300 years in the past in Japan.
I don’t care for building things a whole lot, I just love how they look when they are done. It’s great fun having such small figures on a shelf that doesn’t take up so much room, also quick and easy to pose them in different scenes making for a sort of mini-diorama.
So I’ve finally put together all of these sets, and the turtle van this week. Next I’ve got that giant Krang Attack set on the way, and trying to find somewhere to put the Rocksteady Tank once I build that. I’m also hunting the Technodrome for a fair price, as it’s on discount at loads of faraway places.
